About,Best guns in SWAT4

1.INTRODUCTION

This topic is about the weapons in SWAT4. While it may sound very simple, the choice of weapon is a real dilemma sometimes. Since the game doesn't have that many options (if we count lethal options only, than its only a few primary weapons to choose from) our options are really limited, but even so, it really does bring up certain questions about weapon choice in certain missions.

Since in the game our goal is to capture as many suspects alive, the sheer power of the weapon sometimes isn't the best option. Even when opting to use the lethal weapon, sometimes injuring the suspect will force him to comply, therefore making our goal of capturing him alive rather than killing him.

2.DEFINING CHARACTERISTICS

Power

The power of the weapon is the energy of each bullet. The more powerfull the weapon the more lethal its every bullet is. While it obviously is good for when it is necessary to kill uncompliant suspects, especially those hard to kill armored suspects, you do need to know that swat is a life saving organization whose goal is to save lives. The more power a weapon has, the bigger the score given

Handling

Handling is the ability to keep the weapon ready to fire accurately in normal operation conditions, wich means firing the gun while walking, running or operating in tight spaces. Handling score will be given according to all stated reasons

Recoil

Recoil is defined as a kick wich results because of firing the weapon and has the impact on immediate accuracy of weapon. The higher the recoil the bigger the accuracy loss and the more time it takes for swat officer to get the gun steady. Obviously, the lower the gun recoil the better the gun, so the lower the recoil the higher the score

Fire Modes

There are 3 fire modes in SWAT4. Single, Burst or Auto. All 3 have good and bad sides, and not all guns have all modes of fire. Fire Modes will not be included in gun index rating, since they are quite difficult to include in a fair enough way.

Noise
Noise is the amount of noise that gun produces when firing. Suppressed guns are in obvious advantage here

Rate of Fire

Rate is the amount of bullets a gun can fire in a given time. Usually measured in rounds per minute units.

Magazine Capacity

Magazine capacity is the amount of bullets the gun holds. The grade is the exact amount of bullets it holds in a magazine.

or in short forms:

Finally all those grades will be put in a formula wich will hopefully give us a realistic weapon quality index. The formula will be explained later.
Gal smg is a weapon not commonly used by SWAT forces, but still present ingame. It does not have a flashlight. Its biggest assets are the in-built silencer and high rate of fire, and biggest disadvantages are high recoil and the absence of flashlight. It has a semi and auto fire modes.
.45 SMG, also known as UMP is a good weapon. Its main advantages are the its exceptional handling, and a very good .45 calibre, and its disadvantages are slow rate of fire, and smaller than average magazine of 25 bullets. The weapon itself does have a somewhat higher recoil but it is partially compensated by slower rate of fire, making the gun fairly accurate, even when in auto fire mode.
4.WEAPON INDEX

The weapon index grade will be calculated by following formula:

P/2+H*2+R+SQRT(N)+ROF/2+M/30=weapon index

The Power of the gun is divided by to halve its influence in weapon index. Reason is simple, as much as the gun power is welcome, too powerful weapon will result in you unable to disarm a suspect, and possibly civilians as collateral damage.
Handling is probably the most important property for a swat officer. An ability to fire the weapon as accurately as possible in both walking and running is essential when clearing rooms.
Recoil is also very important because sometimes more than one shot is needed. It is still not important as handling
Noise has only a marginal influence in SWAT actions, but a silencer is surely welcome. Sadly, it reduces the power of weapon
While higher rate of fire is welcome, it can backfire as the results can be higher recoil and lower handling.
Magazine size is very welcome but mostly not neccessary. Still it is divided by somewhat standard size of 30 to reduce its influence.

The gun indexes are as follows:

* GAL - 22.4027
* .45 UMP - 33.2321
* 9mm SMG - 32.5375
* 9mmSD SMG - 31.4027
* AK47 - 21.0404
* Gb36c - 23.1667
* M4A1 - 21.1667
* Nova - 19.3071
* M4 - 18.5071
* Colt1911 - 22.7914
* G17 - 27.1247

This score makes the UMP the best in the game. Surely i cannot guarantee that that is true, mainly because i cannot guarantee the quality of the formula given. But i really do feel that the UMP is the best weapon in the game. Also, both 9mm and 9mm SD come closely behind making them a very good choice. I will not say that any weapons are bad, but according to this they really fall behind in quality.

5.ADDITIONAL

According to swatequipment.ini file i have constructed a new gun index. The values of ini file were taken accordingly:
Finally i hope that this thread will encourage you as readers to give me as much feedback as possible. Any opinions, critics are more than welcome, and hopefully i will encourage some people to give this a thought.

I also added a poll to see how many people try to use lethal weapons in a non-lethal way, as i think the results will be very interesting
